We take a look at which technologies Mid-Market Healthcare IT leaders should focus their investment on and stand to benefit most from in 2024.

2024 IN PRIVATE HEALTHCARE – WHAT KEY INVESTMENTS ARE BEING MADE?

As part of our recently-launched Mid-Market IT Priorities Report 2024, we spoke to over 500 IT decision makers across four sectors to get their thoughts on several key issues shaping the Mid-Market. This included gathering data on topics such as:

  • How prepared organisations feel in the face of increased cyber threats
  • Why IT decision-makers see ESG as an immediate way to stimulate growth
  • What key motivators are the driving force behind digital transformation

Private Healthcare has plenty to gain from technology, but what are decision-makers prioritising when it comes to spending their budgets, what are the biggest threats to maintaining security and how vital to their strategy is the implementation of AI?

MID-MARKET IT PRIORITIES Report 2024

Our annual Mid-Market Report shines a light on shifting IT priorities and budgets and captures IT decision-maker sentiment towards cyber threats, AI, data and compliance.

1. private healthcare says it’s ready to cope with cyber attacks

Of the four sectors we spoke to (private healthcare, finance & insurance, retail and transport), Private Healthcare organisations believed they were the most prepared to respond to cyber attacks, with an impressive 89% of the IT decision-makers we spoke to either somewhat or very confident in their response measures.

So, why are these organisations so confident? This high level of faith in both cyber security strength and incident response surprised us at first, yet it connects with the assertion that the Mid-Market’s overall security posture is maturing. These organisations may have either coped with attacks or have thoroughly tested their processes to the point that they can confidently rely on them should they face significant disruption, which is certainly encouraging for Private Healthcare patients.

However, against a backdrop of rising attacks, we’re of the persuasion that the Mid-Market is actually less prepared and detecting fewer breaches than it’s aware of, potentially due to an increase in third-party solutions giving them a false sense of security.

Elsewhere, when it came to which cyber security offerings Private Healthcare organisations had in place, insurance topped the list:

  • 52% of organisations had Cyber Insurance – this was the highest percentage of all the sectors we spoke to
  • 38% had Dark Web Intelligence
  • 30% had Incident Response
  • 34% had Ransomware Negotiation
  • 0% of organisations had no Cyber Security protection

This suggests that Private Healthcare organisations recognise the threat of disruption that cyber attacks pose to their operations, but are yet to fully grasp preventative and proactive measures to reduce the likelihood of being attacked.

2. WHAT ARE THE MAIN DRIVERS FOR DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION?

It’s unsurprising that the primary motivation for digital transformation efforts centred on responding to industry disruption (30%) – the sectors we spoke to have all been coping with significant shifts and trends over the last several years and, with the rapid development of AI-based solutions, that’s only set to continue.

However, what follows in second place is of great interest. In second place, IT decision-makers listed improving environmental sustainability and social impact as the second biggest driver for digital transformation, outpacing the likes of:

  • Streamlining internal processes
  • Leveraging new technologies and innovations
  • Meeting evolving customer expectations

This is further strengthened by the fact that 50% of our respondents rated ESG initiatives as either helpful or useful as part of their IT strategy, but why is this? We delve into the reasons behind the prioritisation of social impact and sustainability policies within the report.

3. THE CONCERNS AROUND USING AI

Artificial Intelligence has rarely been out of the headlines since the beginning of 2023. Its rapid rise and the pace at which AI-powered technology has reached market has made it impossible to ignore, so it’s encouraging to see IT decision-makers across the sectors we spoke to broadly well-placed to take advantage of it, with:

  • 66% rating their understanding of AI use in a business setting as good-to-excellent
  • 72% rating their understanding of AI use by their organisation as good-to-excellent
  • 64% rating their understanding of how AI is used in their sectors as good-to-excellent

Despite this, just 18% of the organisations we spoke to are prioritising AI implementation as a key part of their IT strategy for 2024. Why is this, and what’s stopping private healthcare from adopting AI to assist and enhance daily operations?
